Birds Split Doubleheader Behind Offensive Explosion in Finale

WILMINGTON, Del. - Behind five hits from Tyler Alamo throughout Wednesday's doubleheader, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans split the twin bill with the Wilmington Blue Rocks, winning the finale 10-1 after losing game one 3-1 from Frawley Stadium.

In game two, Wladimir Galindo began the second inning with a double. After an Alamo base hit, Daniel Spingola notched an RBI two-bagger for the game's first run. Luis Ayala then hit a two-run single against Wilmington (16-22) starter Anthony Bender (1-2) to put the Pelicans (16-23) ahead 3-0.

The Blue Rocks scored a run on an RBI ground out in the bottom of the second, but that was the extent of the damage against Myrtle Beach's pitching staff. Bryan Hudson (3-3) pitched five innings and ceded that one run on one hit, scattering five walks with three strikeouts. Wyatt Short and Ryan Kellogg each tossed a scoreless frame out of the bullpen to seal the win.

With the score still 3-1, Aramis Ademan , who reached base four times, singled to jumpstart the fifth inning. Bender retired the next two batters, but Jhonny Pereda doubled in Ademan to make it 4-1. After Galindo walked, Alamo blasted an RBI double before Spingola earned another free pass. Kevonte Mitchell then registered a pinch-hit, two-run single to widen the margin to 7-1.

Ademan singled again to start the sixth, and again, Myrtle Beach mounted a two-out rally. Pereda singled Ademan into scoring position with two outs. Galindo and Alamo followed with an RBI single and RBI double, respectively, putting the tally at 9-1.

In the seventh, Ademan tripled with two outs and came into score on Andruw Monasterio's RBI single.

In the twin bill opener, Birds starter Tyson Miller (3-4) struck out the first two in the bottom of the first. However, after hitting Khalil Lee with a pitch, he issued three straight walks to put the Blue Rocks in front 1-0. An RBI ground out in the third increased the advantage to 2-0.

In the fourth inning, Pereda doubled against Wilmington starter Jace Vines (2-5) to start the frame. Pereda moved to third on a ground out and scored two batters later on Mitchell's sacrifice fly.

However, Myrtle Beach could not get any closer against Vines, who pitched a complete game, yielding one run on five hits in seven inning. He struck out four and walked three.

Emmanuel Rivera singled to begin the seventh, later coming around to score from third on a wild pitch, putting the lead at 3-1.

The Birds and Blue Rocks play a rubber match with Thursday's 6:35 p.m. contest from Frawley Stadium.
