SALEM, VA - Behind an onslaught of 14 hits, the Delmarva Shorebirds downed the Salem Red Sox 9-4 on Tuesday Night at Salem Memorial Ballpark.

The win is the seventh in a row for the Shorebirds (55-42) and moves them to just two games back of the Red Sox (57-40) in the division.

The Shorebirds got the scoring started immediately in the top of the first. Back-to-back walks started the ballgame and coupled with a wild pitch put runners at second and third. Colton Cowser then grounded out to second to bring home the first run of the game.

Salem answered in the bottom half. Tyler McDonough tripled to left and then scored to tie the game on a Nick Decker RBI single.

Two more came in for the Red Sox in the second. Matthew Lugo singled to start the inning and one out later scored on an Antoni Flores double to give Salem the lead. Angel Maita then singled home Flores to make it 3-1 Salem.

A rally in the third tied the game for Delmarva. Cowser walked with one away and then raced to third on a Jacob Teter double. Coby Mayo followed with a single to left to score Cowser and one out later Billy Cook tied the score with a hot shot single to right, scoring Teter.

The game stayed tied until the sixth when the Shorebirds retook the lead. Mason Janvrin walked with one out before Collin Burns singled to right. Janvrin raced first to third and the throw to get him was off-target allowing him to score while Burns scooted to second. Burns then subsequently stole third and scored on a Connor Norby sacrifice fly to make it 5-3 Shorebirds.

Mayo walked and Rhodes singled to open the seventh for Delmarva and one out later Connor Pavolony ripped a base hit to plate Mayo and further extend the Shorebirds lead to 6-3.

In the eighth, Mayo belted a towering two-run homer, his second with the Shorebirds, pushing the score to 8-3.

Salem rallied with three two-out walks in the eighth, scoring a run on an infield single from Maita, but Thomas Girard managed to strand the bases loaded.

The Shorebirds added one last insurance run in the ninth, with Norby beating out an infield single to plate the ninth and final run of the game for Delmarva.

Gregori Vasquez (2-0) secured the win for Delmarva with four shutout innings out of the bullpen. Vasquez struck out three while allowing three hits.

Jose Larez (0-1) suffered the loss for Salem. Larez conceded three runs on four hits and two walks in two innings, striking out two.

Girard picked up his third save for his efforts for the Shorebirds, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out a batter.

The Shorebirds will try to match their season long win streak of eight on Wednesday, August 24 against Salem. First pitch from Salem Memorial Ballpark is slated for 7:05 p.m. with pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 on Fox Sports 960 AM and streaming online on IHeartRadio with Sam Jellinek on the call. MiLB.TV coverage will be provided by Salem.
