FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The Delmarva Shorebirds finally conceded a contest to the Fredericksburg Nationals, falling 6-2 on Thursday night at the New FredNats Ballpark.

The Shorebirds (19-7) had previously been unbeaten in eight previous games against the Nationals (6-21) in Fredericksburg.

With one out in the first inning the Nationals put a rally together. Jeremy De La Rosa walked and then swiped second. Telmito Agustin then worked a walk himself before De La Rosa and Agustin executed a double steal with a throwing error allowing De La Rosa to score. After a groundout moved Agustin to third, Ricardo Mendez cashed him in with a line drive single to make it 2-0 FredNats.

With one out in the second Geraldi Diaz doubled before moving to third on a groundout. Viandel Pena then brought Diaz in with a single back through the box making it 3-0 Nationals.

Delmarva scratched a run back in the fourth. Hudson Haskin and Gunnar Henderson both singled to open the frame. After two outs, Cristopher Cespedes was hit by a pitch. Trevor Kehe then forced home the first run of the game for the Shorebirds when he was hit by a pitch.

The FredNats stretched their lead out in the fifth. Pena walked and stole second to start the inning. De La Rosa was then awarded a single after his batted ball hit the field umpire, keeping Pena at single. Agustin followed up with a line drive single to left, scoring Pena and sending De La Rosa to third. Agustin then stole second with the throw sailing into centerfield, allowing De La Rosa to score while Agustin advanced to third. After a ground out, Mendez plated Agustin for the second time in the game with a base knock making it 6-1 FredNats.

Trying to claw their way back into the game, TT Bowens smashed a solo homer, his first of the year, to cut it to a four-run deficit which was as close as Delmarva would get.

Alfonso Hernández (1-1) started and earned the win for the FredNats. The southpaw went five innings, limiting the Shorebirds to just one run on three hits and two walks, striking out four.

Houston Roth (0-1) started and suffered the loss for Delmarva. Roth worked four innings, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks, racking up three strikeouts.

Bowens smashed his first career homer in the loss, finishing 3-for-4, as he collected three of the seven hits for Delmarva.

Fredericksburg stole an astonishing nine bases, with De La Rosa, Agustin, and Mendez, each swiping two apiece. Mendez also added two RBI and two hits while Agustin picked up an RBI as well as two runs scored.

The Shorebirds and FredNats continue their series on Friday, June 4. Delmarva gives the ball to Griffin McLarty (1-0, 3.57) while the FredNats roll out Bryan Pena (0-0, 5.00).
