MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis shutout Tacoma 1-0 Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park behind strong pitching and a late home run.
Redbirds starter P.J. Walters and Rainiers starter Luke French battled to a scoreless tie through seven innings until Amaury Cazana led off the eighth inning with a solo home run to left-center field. Walters turned in seven scoreless innings before departing and French tossed a complete game in taking the loss. French scattered three hits and fanned five in his first loss of the year. Rich Hill picked up the win with one inning of relief work and Fernando Salas worked around a Tommy Everidge single in the ninth to earn his fifth save. Walters finished the day with eight strikeouts and allowed three hits with one walk.
Everidge led the way for the Rainiers with three of the team's four hits. Cazana was one of only three Redbirds to collect hits and was the only one to pass second base in the club's second shutout victory of the year.
Memphis and Tacoma continue their series tomorrow night with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Lance Lynn gets the ball for the âBirds and will square off against Rainiers right-hander Steven Shell. It will be Moe's Monday tomorrow night with fans receiving one-dollar off ticket prices with a receipt from the Moe's Poplar location.
