RENO, Nev.- Iowa broke open a scoreless tie with an eight-run fifth inning, handing the Aces a series-opening 11-1 loss to the I-Cubs in front of 8,333 fans Saturday night at Aces Ballpark.

Iowa sent 11 men to the plate in the frame, blowing the game open and ending what was a pitcher's duel to that point. The Aces managed only four hits all night, and didn't score a run until there were two outs in the ninth. Gerardo Parra got the Aces on the board with an RBI-double, but it was too late, as Iowa won for the fifth-straight time on the road and sixth-straight overall.

Josh Collmenter (1-1) held the I-Cubs scoreless through the first four frames before the fifth-inning outburst, and allowed eight total runs in six innings of work.

Mitch Atkins (3-1) earned the win for Iowa, tossing five shutout innings and allowing just three hits. Jeff Stevens and Blake Parker threw the final four innings, allowing just the Parra double and one unearned run.

Parra and Doug Deeds each doubled for Reno, which was held to just four hits on the evening. Parra has now hit safely in all seven games with the Aces since being optioned by Arizona last week.

Reno and Iowa meet again Sunday afternoon, with Reno RHP Bryan Augenstein (1-5, 6.81 ERA) toeing the slab against Iowa LHP J.R. Mathes (3-3, 5.67 ERA). Sunday is another Youth Baseball and Softball Day at Aces Ballpark, with a pre-game parade and chalk talk with Aces players.

Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both gamedays and non-gamedays.
