Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - Bryan Augentein was dominant over seven innings, holding the I-Cubs scoreless en route to a 3-1 Aces victory in front of a sellout crowd of 9,092 fans Sunday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
Augenstein threw 72 of his 104 pitches for strikes, allowing just four hits on his way to his second victory of the season. Ryan Roberts gave the Aces all the offense they would need on the afternoon with a two-run single in the first, and Gerardo Parra added an RBI-single in the third to put the Aces ahead 3-0. Augenstein and reliever Zach Kroenke did the rest, although the Cubs threatened in the ninth, sending the tying run to the plate before pinch hitter Chad Tracy flew out to end the game.
Augenstein (2-5) struck out three and walked just one, tossing his second quality start in his last three outings. Kroenke hurled the final two innings, allowing just one run to earn his first save of the season.
J.R. Mathes (3-4) matched Augenstein with a quality start of his own, allowing three runs over six innings, but still was tagged with the loss for Iowa.
Ed Rogers had two of Reno's eight hits, while Parra and Roberts provided all three RBIs for the Aces. Doug Deeds pitched in with a two-hit day of his own, and scored two of Reno's three runs on the afternoon.
The third game of this four-game set is Monday night. Iowa RHP Andrew Cashner (1-0, 1.50 ERA) will be making his second-career Triple-A start, while Reno's starter is to be determined. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. PT.
Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
