Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
After smashing the go-ahead two-run home run in a 5-3 victory in the resumption of Saturday night's suspended game, Omaha 3B Kelvin Gutierrez clubbed a two-run single in Sunday's regularly scheduled contest, however Memphis right fielder Adolis Garcia blasted a three-run homer to give the Redbirds a 3-2 win over the Storm Chasers at AutoZone Park.
2B Nicky Lopez reached via a walk and SS Humberto Arteaga singled to bring up Gutierrez, who laced his two-run single in the top of the third to push Omaha ahead 2-0. Memphis, however, would answer right back with Garcia crushing his three-run shot in the last of the frame.
Through his first four games at the Triple-A level, Gutierrez has hit .400 (6-15) with three runs, one homer and five RBI. Arteaga's third-inning single, meanwhile, extended his hit streak to 13 games dating back to last season.
Redbirds starter Daniel Ponce de Leon (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 2 K) earned the win, while the relief trio of Hunter Cervenka (2.0 IP, H, 2 K), Chasen Shreve (1.0 IP, 2 K) and Chris Beck (1.0 IP, 2 K) combined for the final four scoreless frames. Omaha starter Ben Lively (4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) suffered the defeat, while relievers Andres Machado (2.2 IP, H, 3 K) and Kevin Lenik (1.0 IP, BB, K) fired the final 3.2 shutout innings.
The Storm Chasers and Redbirds are set to complete their five-game series with a Monday matinee scheduled for 11:05am at AutoZone Park. RHP Scott Blewett is expected to make his Triple-A debut for Omaha, while Memphis is slated to send RHP Mike Hauschild to the hill.
Omaha returns to Werner Park to begin a seven-game homestand on Tuesday, April 9. First pitch that evening is set for 6:35pm CT.
