Binick And Company Batter Bluefish

(Central Islip, N.Y., August 9, 2011) -The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 7-5 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Bridgeport got on the scoreboard early with three runs in the first inning on a two-run single by Wes Bankston and a run-scoring base hit by Danny Putnam against Ducks' starter Ruddy Lugo. The Ducks rallied back to take the lead with four runs in the second off Bluefish starter Esteban Yan. A solo homer by John Rodriguez, a two-run triple by Kraig Binick, and a sac fly by Kennard Jones highlighted the damage.

The Bluefish scratched back with a run in the fourth to tie the game on Bankston's sac fly. However, the Quack Attack struck again with a three-spot in the sixth to jump back in front. A solo blast by J.R. House, a run-scoring double play off the bat of Dan Lyons, and a RBI single by Jones put the Ducks ahead 7-4.

Lugo (5-2) picked up the win, hurling six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four. Yan (0-2) took the loss after a five-inning stint, allowing seven runs on eight hits. Bubbie Buzachero earned his 14th save with a scoreless ninth.

House, Binick, and Matt Esquivel led the way with two hits apiece, while Binick and Jones each drove in two runs.

The Ducks continue their series with cross-sound rival Bluefish on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 PM, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Rally Towels, presented by St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center.

Duck Tales: The Ducks came from behind to win a ballgame for the 28th time this season. Their largest comeback win was from five runs down, accomplished several times, most recently on July 19 against Southern MarylandJohn Rodriguez hit his 15th home run of the season for the Ducks' first run. It also extended his league leading RBI total to 69. J.R. House's solo homer was his 17th of the season and gave Long Island the lead for good. Ray Navarrete leads the Ducks with 18 home runsKraig Binick picked up his first career two-triple game and became the first Duck in 2011 to collect two triples in a game. Long Island has now totaled 24 triples this season. Ray Navarrete played in his 599th career game with the Ducks, leaving him just one shy of the 600 mark. Justin Davies (637) is the only other Duck to play in 600 games on Long Island.
