Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Despite a strong Double-A debut on the mound from RHP Jacob DeGrom, the B-Met bats were shut down in a 1-0 loss to the Portland Sea Dogs Wednesday night at NYSEG Stadium.
Xander Bogaerts led off the fourth inning with a bloop double down the right field line after DeGrom had given up just one hit through the first three innings. After a ground ball moved Bogaerts to third base, Tony Thomas brought him home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield.
That was the only blemish given up by DeGrom, and he left the game after eight innings. He only gave up three hits, and struck out eight in his impressive debut. Unfortunately for Binghamton, Brandon Workman was equally impressive on the mound for Portland. Workman threw seven shutout innings, gave up four hits, and struck out nine B-Mets.
Binghamton's biggest threat came in the eighth after Portland looked to Chris Martin for relief. Allan Dykstra led off with a single before being pinch ran for by Josh Rodriguez. He advanced from first-to-third after Blake Forsythe singled to right field. Martin escaped the jam however, as he struck out Danny Muno and Wilfredo Tovar consecutively to end the threat. Martin remained in the game in the ninth, and retired Binghamton in order to record the save.
After the B-Mets finished 3-4 in the homestand, and they now hit the road for seven games. The roadtrip begins Thursday night against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. RHP Tyler Pill (0-1, 9.00) will pitch for Binghamton against RHP Ryan Tepera (2-0, 2.45) First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM, with the Horizons Federal Pregame Show beginning at 6:20 PM.
POSTGAME NOTES: The B-Mets were shut out for the first time since August 18, 2012 vs RIC...Darrell Ceciliani was the only player for either team with more than one base hit...The B-Mets struck out 12 times as a team
