
Rock Cats Lose in 11 Innings 3-2

New Britain, CT- The Rock Cats fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3-2 in 11 innings in front of a capacity crowd of 6,889 on Wednesday afternoon in the final game of the opening homestand. The loss snapped New Britain's 3 game win streak. Clint Robinson singled home Ryan Schimpf for the eventual game winning run in the 11 th inning off reliever Aaron Thompson. The 2-out hit was set up by a balk which was called on Thompson earlier that inning. It marked the 4th time in 13 games, including three this homestand, that New Britain has played extra innings.
The Rock Cats, who defeated New Hampshire the past two nights, were held to just two hits over the first seven innings by starter Tyson Brummett and reliever Matt Wright. The Rock Cats tied the game with a pair of runs in the 9 th against former Blue Jays right-hander Chad Beck. Curt Smith singled home Josmil Pinto and James Beresford's sacrifice fly scored Danny Ortiz tying the game. Reynaldo Rodriguez struck out with Smith at third sending the game into extra innings.
The Fisher Cats (6-7) broke the 2-2 tie on Robinson's RBI single to left field scoring Ryan Shimpf who began the inning with a hit off Thompson. He moved to second base on a balk and took third base on a ground ball. Robinson's hit came with one out in the 11 th .
Rock Cats (7-6) starter and Naugatuck native Pat Dean (ND) pitched well, allowing just one run over seven innings in his longest start of the season. He left trailing 1-0 after seven frames but the Rock Cats got him off the hook with two runs in the 9th. Reliever Bruce Pugh was reached for a run in the 9 th .
The Rock Cats open a two city 7-game road trip Thursday at Portland (6:00). Alex Meyer will pitch against Kyle Kaminska.
