
Big Sixth Inning Lifts Roosters to Win

Columbia, Missouri - Richmond took the rubber match against Mid-Missouri on Friday night with a 13-7 win. Neither team had trouble scoring but the Roosters managed to net a huge sixth inning to take control of the game and the series. The win secures the second straight series win for Richmond.
The Mavericks scored three runs in the second inning, two of them coming on RBI singles by Dusty Hillman and Elliot Ayala. Another run scored in the fourth on a solo homer by Brett Winn, but the Roosters scored three runs from the third to fifth inning to draw within one at 4-3. Mike Reese and Kiley Vaughn had RBI hits while Nate Gravley scored on a throwing error.
The Roosters busted out in the sixth however by scoring 10 runs on 13 hits. 16 batters came to the plate in the inning which was highlighted by a two RBI double by Mike Reese and a three-run homer by Dick Daly, Jr. It was the highest scoring inning of the year for the Roosters who jumped out in front at 13-4 after just six innings.
Mid-Missouri was able to plate a run in sixth, seventh and eighth inning on RBI hits by Brent Metheny, Brett Winn, and a sacrifice fly by Dusty Hillman. It cut the lead to 13-7, but Richmond's lead proved to be insurmountable as the Mavericks were held scoreless in the ninth. Matt Huskey (1-1) earned the win while Phil Ellison (0-3) took the loss.
Richmond will begin a series against the River City Rascals on Saturday at McBride Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Tony Casoli (7-2, 3.52 ERA) make the start for Richmond.
