Big Sixth Inning Leads to Series Loss

QUEBEC CITY, QC - The RailCats let a six-run lead slip away on Tuesday night as the Capitales scored eight runs in the sixth inning on their way to a 12-9 win in the series rubber match.

Quebec trailed 7-4 entering the sixth inning and had the first nine batters of the inning reach without an out being recorded. They had five hits, two walks and two errors in the inning leading to eight runs. Steve Brown hit a go-ahead RBI single, Patrick D'Aoust hit a three-run triple and Josh Colafemina hit a run-scoring single for the final run of the inning.

Adam Klein walked to lead off the first and moved to second on a bunt single by Mike Massaro. With one out, Brian Kolb chopped a single into left to score Klein. The next batter, Mike Rohde, hit a three-run bomb off the scoreboard in right field that gave the 'Cats a 4-0 lead.

The Capitales got on the board in the second inning on a two-out RBI double by Rony Rodriguez to cut the deficit to 4-1.

The RailCats offense was back at it in the fourth, as Matt Forgatch and Chris Carrara led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice by David Cooper, Klein hit a sac fly to score Forgatch. Massaro followed with a two-run shot to right, increasing the lead to 7-1.

Quebec pulled back a pair in the fourth, as Steve Brown hit a solo homer and Jeff Helps added an RBI single. Patrick D'Aoust walked with the bases loaded in the fifth to cut the RailCats lead to 7-4 before the decisive sixth inning.

Massaro and Mike Coles hit back-to-back sac flies in the eighth for the RailCats for the final runs of the game.

Marshall Schuler (0-1) gave up six runs, four earned in the sixth for the loss. Guillaume Leduc (2-3) picked up the win while T.J. Stanton pitched the ninth for his 11th save.

The RailCats will return to the United States and start a four-game series at the New Jersey Jackals in the final leg of their trip on Thursday night at 6:05 Central time. Will Krout (0-3, 4.17 ERA) will be the starting pitcher for Gary.
