Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The season-long 11-game road trip for the Grand Prairie AirHogs started well, as they won three of four in Laredo to help set a franchise-record 11-game winning streak. But the back end did not treat them well, as they lost all four games in Fargo and now all three games at Midway Stadium, as the St. Paul Saints scored three in the fourth to take the lead before adding on and beating the AirHogs 5-2 on Wednesday.
For the seventh time in eight games, the AirHogs (37-21) took a lead in the first two innings - this time scoring two in the second, but for the seventh straight contest, they ended it on the wrong side of the score.
After dancing around trouble in the first and pitching a 1-2-3 second, Will Irvin (1-1) got around three hits in the third with the help of a double play. But he was not as fortunate in the fourth, giving up three extra-base hits and two singles as St. Paul (28-28) took a 3-2 lead.
The AirHogs did not have two men on in an inning the rest of the way, as Luke Anderson (1-0) and two relievers limited Grand Prairie to a double, three singles and two walks in the final seven innings, with Anderson getting his first career win - doing so while working on three days' rest. Reid Mahon got four outs between the sixth and seventh, and lefty Kyle Carr got a double play in the eighth and worked around a two-out single in the ninth for a two-inning save.
Notes: For the second time in the series, all nine Saints had at least one hit.The AirHogs did not make an error for the first time in six games.Greg Porter and Yasutsugu Nishimoto each had two hits to lead the AirHogs, while Bryan Frichter and Nishimoto knocked in the two runs.
