Frederick Keys News Release

In a series in which the Keys hope to rejuvenate their playoff aspirations, Wilmington defeated Frederick when Blue Rocks DH Cody Strait broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run right down the line as the Keys dropped the opener 3-2.

A home run down the line seemed fitting as the Keys were extremely upset by a fair/foul call near the game's outset. Manager Richie Hebner was tossed from a Carolina League game for the first time this season after Keys DH Chris Vinyard sent a blast called foul. The potential home run went for naught and the Keys failed to score in the inning.

Trailing 2-0 in the seventh inning the Keys would rally. 1B Brandon Snyder doubled to lead off the rally. Vinyard would then single moving Snyder to third base. RF Brandon Tripp's sacrifice fly brought home Snyder.

With two down in the inning the Keys got back-to-back two out hits. 3B Billy Rowell doubled bringing Vinyard to third base. Next up was LF Chris Amador who singled sharply to left field tying the game at 2-2.

Keys starter Tim Bascom worked very well. He allowed two runs on eight hits in six innings.

The series continues with Kyle Schmidt atop the hill for Frederick Friday, August 8th, 2008. Frederick returns home Thursday, August 14th at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Kinston Indians.
