THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg took the rubber match of a three-game set against Potomac with a 10-4 win last night at City Stadium...The Hillcats have now won back-to-back games after an 11-game losing streak that had matched the longest slide in team history...They still remain two and a half games behind Wilmington for the final playoff spot in the Northern Division after a Blue Rocks win last night...Monday night marked the start of a stretch of 18 out of 27 at home for Lynchburg that will round out the 2008 campaign...
VS. MYRTLE BEACH: The Hillcats are 6-10 against the Pelicans in their series this season and are 3-3 and City Stadium...Last season the Hillcats won the series against the Pelicans 12-8...Myrtle Beach holds the all-time advantage 105-88 and are 47-47 against the Cats in the Hill City...Last weekend the Birds swept the Cats in a four-game set...It was Lynchburg's final trip to the beach and this series is the last time these two teams meet this year...
SECRET OF SERIES SUCCESS: Last night Lynchburg won their first series since July 5-7 when they took two out of three from Frederick...They had gone 0-6-2 over their previous eight series and had been swept in the last three series...The Cats improved to 9-5 in rubber matches this season with the victory and are now 10-15 in three-game sets...They also improved to 6-51 when trailing after five innings...
DOUBLE DIGITS: The Hillcats posted double digits for the second straight night last night in their10-4 win...The Cats have only accomplished this feat one other time this season and it was also against the Nationals (May 28th and 29th)...Five of the 14 times the Cats have put up double digits it has against Nats...Lynchburg has allowed double digits in runs 19 times this season to the seven other teams in the Carolina League...Six of those occasions came courtesy of Potomac...
CLUBBING KEEL: LF Jared Keel collected his first three-hit game of the season with a 3-for-4 performance on Tuesday night and followed that up with another three-hit night in last night's win...After 102 games without a three-hit game the left fielder has done it two times in as many night's...By hitting in four straight games (8-for-15) Keel has raised his average to .226 for the first time since June 22nd...The three hits matched his career-high and last night was the 13th time he has accomplished the feat...
BACK WITH A BOOM: 1B Kent Sakamoto broke a 1-for-16 slump with a 3-for-5 game on Tuesday night and went 2-for-5 a night ago...In the two games combined he has gone 5-for-10 with five RBI, two runs scored, two doubles and a homer...Tuesday the first baseman hit his first three-run home run of the season and the eighth by a Hillcat (they also have two grand slams)...
WONDERFUL WATTS: Last night C Kris Watts went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored an RBI and a walk...Over the his last 12 games the former 16th round draft pick has gone 18-for-39 (.462) with 11 runs scored, seven RBI, three doubles and 12 walks...He has now reached safely in 19 straight games and is two games shy of tying Jim Negrych for the longest streak by a Hillcat...
TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Scott Diamond was signed in 2007 after attending high school in Guelph, ON, Canada...The lefty began the year with Low-A Rome and went 3-1 with a 3.08 ERA before his promotion to Myrtle Beach...With the Pelicans he has gone 10-1 with a 3.07 ERA...The only loss for Diamond as a Pelican was handed to him by the Hillcats on June 9th when he allowed four earned runs on 11 hits in six innings of work in a 5-3 loss..He also made his last start against Lynchburg last Friday night and he did not allow a run in five innings despite walking a season-high five batters and picked up his tenth win of the year...He is tied with teammate Ryne Reynoso for the league-lead in wins...
