Kinston Beats Salem, 12-6

The Kinston Indians batted around in two innings Thursday night, and Beau Mills hit his Carolina League-leading 18th home run as Kinston routed Salem 12-6, at Historic Grainger Stadium. The Indians snapped a three-game losing streak, and have won seven straight over the Avalanche.

Mills' two-run blast was part of a three-run first inning, as Matt McBride drove in the third run on a sacrifice fly. Jerad Head scored in the third inning on a wild pitch and an errant throw from Salem catcher Jimmy Goethals. Jared Goedert hit a two-out RBI single in the fourth inning, and broke open the game with a two-run double in the fifth inning. Romero put the game out of reach with a three-run double to make the score 10-4.

Every man except one in the K-Tribe lineup got a hit as Kinston banged out 15 on the night. Carlos Santana went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. He's hit in nine of the ten games he's played with the Tribe. Mills went 3-for-5; Jared Goedert went 2-for-3.

Kelvin De La Cruz went four innings for the K-Tribe, allowing two runs, picking up a no decision. Mike Pontius pitched one inning of work, picking up his fifth win. He limited the damage on a line-out double play and striking out a man to leave the tying runs on base in the fifth. Sergio Severino (0-5) takes the loss for the the Avalanche, his last two defeats at the hands of the K-Tribe.

The Indians send Carlton Smith to the mound for game two of the four game set Friday night at Grainger Stadium. Game time 7pm, with fireworks at the conclusion.
