Ontario Clippers News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Agua Caliente Clippers (15-14) cruise past the Sioux Falls Skyforce (13-16), 117-103, on Tuesday night with the help from 30 points apiece by two-way players Amir Coffey and Johnathan Motley.
Motley shot 11-for-18 from the field and pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double while Coffey shot 12-of-17 from the field, hitting four of his five three-point attempts, and recorded six rebounds and three steals.
The game was close through the half, with Agua Caliente holding onto a three-point advantage. With the score 74-69 with 2:57 to go in the third quarter, the Clippers quickly extended their lead to 16 with a 16-5 run to end the quarter. They would lead by as much as 19 in the final frame as they headed to the finish line.
The Skyforce were paced by Marcus Lee who recorded a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.
The Clippers and Skyforce each honored the late Kobe Bryant, who wore the numbers 8 and 24 in his 20-year career, with an eight-second backcourt violation and a 24-second shot clock violation in their first possessions of the game, respectively. Agua Caliente's Xavier Rathan-Mayes also paid tribute to the legend by wearing the number 24 instead of his usual 22.
Next up for the Clippers is a five-game road trip opening in Texas, where they look to get even with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in their second of three meetings this season. The ballgame is scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m. PST inside the Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, TX.
