LEXINGTON, KY. - The Legends celebrated their fifth anniversary in grand fashion on Wednesday night. The team introduced a brand new mascot, "Elle" to the crowd before the game. The team made her coming out party a huge success with a 3-0 shutout win over Kannapolis. The Legends recorded their second straight shutout and their 13th of the season.
Ronnie Martinez authored seven innings in route to his eighth win of the season and his fifth straight winning decision. Martinez (8-3) struck out five. Paul Estrada and Ryan Thompson worked the final two innings with Thompson earning his seventh save of the year.
Ole Sheldon led the Legends offensively. The Legends first baseman had two hits including an RBI single in the first scoring Edwin Maysonet. Sheldon doubled and scored in the sixth inning on Kevin Vital's single to right. Later in the sixth, Luke Barganier's sacrifice fly to centerfield plated Beau Torbert.
Vital had two hits along with Maysonet. J.R. Towles extended his hit streak to eight games with third inning single.
The Legends improve to a season high 18 games over .500 at 63-45. Lexington stands at 21-17 in the second half.
The Legends will send Chad Reineke to the mound on Thursday. The Intimidators will try to turn around their fortunes behind right-hander Adam Russell. First pitch is set for 7:05. Legends Network Coverage will begin at 6:50.
Don't forget, the Legends will welcome their two millionth fan on Thursday night. The lucky fan will be showered with prizes including a pass for two million Legends games. Gates open at 5:30.
