Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - Behind two big offensive innings, the Pippins finished off a two-game sweep over the Thurston County Senators with a 16-1 win Saturday night.
An RBI double from J.R. Davis got the Pippins an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. The Senators pulled even in the top of the 3rd on a fielding error by Davis.
For the second straight night, the Pippins blew things open in the 3rd. After scoring six runs in the 3rd on Friday, Yakima Valley put up seven runs against starter Evan Reister in the 3rd on Saturday, keyed by eight hits.
Bernstein continued to keep the Senators' bats quiet, allowing his only hit on a two-out single in the 3rd. It would prove to be the only hit for Thurston County on the night. The one hit allowed was a franchise-best for Yakima Valley topping the previous mark of three.
Leading 8-1 entering the 8th, Yakima Valley had its second big inning of the night, scoring eight more runs to make it 16-1. The 16 runs tied a season high (also set June 7 vs Klamath Falls). Since Monday, the Pippins have had innings of 6, 7, 8 and 9 runs.
The Pippins have Sunday off before returning to league play Monday night against the Kitsap BlueJackets (10-20), who are on a 10-game losing streak. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm.
