Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

Sioux Falls, SD - The Lincoln Saltdogs (17-4) took advantage of three runs in the first inning and six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-5 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries (7-14) on Saturday night at the Birdcage.

The Saltdogs big first inning started with an infield single by Cory Harris. Jay Yanconetti followed with a ground ball to second base that Kyle Kmiecik threw away trying to retire Harris. The play left runners on the corners for Bryan Warner who grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Harris for a 1-0 lead. Pichi Balet followed with an RBI triple, scoring Warner to make it 2-0. A groundout by Josh Patton scored Balet and Lincoln led 3-0.

The Canaries scored single runs in the first, third, and fourth innings to tie the game. In the bottom of the first Denis Anderson singled to score Ralph Santana, and it was 3-1. In the bottom of the third, Abner Arroyo hit his fourth home run of the year to make it 3-2. And in the bottom of the fourth, Angelo Fermin scored on a single by Jason Sugden to knot the game at three.

The Saltdogs would pull ahead to stay in the sixth inning. With Josh Patton on first base, Kevin Sullivan tripled for a 4-3 lead. Jose Torres followed with a double to make it 5-3. An RBI groundout by Harris put the Saltdogs in front 6-3. A double by Yaconetti scored two runs for an 8-3 lead. Finally, a double by Warner scored Yaconetti for a 9-3 lead.

The Canaries rallied for two runs in the eighth. Anderson scored on a throwing error by Saltdogs second baseman Josh Patton and Fermin scored on a single by Kyle Kmiecik to cut Lincoln's lead to 9-5. However, unlike Wednesday and Thursday's wild comebacks, the Canaries would not rally to even the score.

Aaron Garrison (1-1) allowed seven runs, five earned on seven hits. He took the loss in his first start of the season. Roger Lincoln (3-1) got the win for the Saltdogs.

The teams will wrap-up the weekend series with an afternoon game on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. as Doug Johnson will get the start for Sioux Falls and Ben Fox will take the hill for Lincoln.
