Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

Shreveport's Justin Humphries was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in Sunday in the Sports 4-2 victory over the Cats at LaGrave Field.

Humprhies had two doubles including a shot down the first base line that brought home the first two runners of the game in the first inning.

After Shreveport starter Eric Wikstrom retired the first 11 hitters of the game in order, the Cats would cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth on Jordan Foster's sacrifice fly to right field scoring Tony Mota.

Shreveport countered with a run in the fifth on a Neb Brown run-scoring single. They added their fourth run in the sixth on a sac fly by Melvin Falu.

The Cats would cut the lead in half in the eighth inning when Kip Harkrider's double brought home Adam Miller. But the Cats left bases loaded in the eighth and two more runners in the ninth as they fell for the fourth time in the last six games.

Wikstrom (2-1) wound up going 7 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out five. Joel Kirsten (0-1) took the loss after permitting four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

Gerson Mercedes notched his second save of the season by retiring the final two men in the ninth inning.
