Wilson Tobs News Release

WILSON, N.C.- The Wilson Tobs played a tough game against the defending Pettit Cup champion Edenton Steamers, losing 6-2.

A crowd of 790 saw the game from Fleming Stadium in gorgeous weather on All-You-Can-Eat Tuesday.

Zack Kelly started strong, striking out five of the first seven batters he faced, but the Clams exploded in the third inning.

Edenton's Ben Prada smacked a solo homer to right field to give Edenton the lead. The Steamers followed the home run with five hits in the next seven batters.

Daymon Totherow clobbered a double and scored on a Tony Rosselli knock. Thatcher Coleman plated Rosselli on a double to make it 3-0.

Aaron Aucker singled in Coleman and was later moved home by a sacrifice fly from Brandon Gragilla to make it 5-0 Steamers.

The Tobs found themselves in position to answer on many occasions, but in back-to-back innings, the Tobs stranded a pair of base runners in scoring position.

The Clams score another run when Coleman went yard on a solo shot to make it 6-0.

Both Kelly and Edenton starter Randy Dobnak exited after five innings of work. Edenton worked through a pair of relievers before the eighth inning.

Cameron Balego broke the shutout with a leadoff homerun to left field. Collin Thacker would also score in the inning after his single. With Andrew Webster at third and Willie McRae pinch-running at first, Chad Frazier was struck out by Alex Britt, quenching the comeback.

Logan Baldwin singled in the ninth, but a pair of strikeouts from Branden Nunn sat down the Tobs, sealing the Steamer win.

The Tobs head to Hicks Field looking to split the home and home with the Clams tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. Wilson returns home on Thursday to play the Wilmington Sharks on Throwback Thirsty Thursday and School's Out Celebration night.
