Grizzlies Split Doubleheader

Gastonia Grizzlies News Release
The Grizzlies dropped Game 1 of the Doubleheader to the Martinsville Mustangs, 6-4. Michael Patrick got the scoring started with an RBI single in the 2nd, and Gastonia would add another run in each of the next three innings, but Luke Mangineri's 2-RBI single, Ivan Acuna's RBI single, and Jacob Long's reaching on a fielder's choice would tie the game after 5 innings. Tyler Heinrichs' 2-run double in the 6th would seal the deal.
Gastonia won Game 2, 5-4 over the Mustangs! Darien Simms got the scoring started by taking advantage of a passed ball in the 1st inning, but the Mustangs would grab a 2-1 lead on a 2-run, RBI double by Anthony Forte. Colin Fleischer added to the lead with an RBI single in the 3rd, but Zach Featherstone tied it in the bottom half with a 2 RBI single and Jackson Mims would give the Grizzlies the go-ahead run on a double scoring Jake Barbee in the 5th. Jackson Mims scored later in the inning on a passed ball to give the Grizzlies a 5-3 lead, although Anthony Forte would make it interesting with a 7th inning solo homer.
Looking ahead on the schedule, the Grizzlies are off tomorrow, but will pay a return visit to Martinsville's Hooker Field on Thursday before hosting Faith and Family Night at home on Friday, June 10th. The Grizzlies will hit the road for Lexington County on Saturday... Martinsville kicks off a 3-game home stretch tomorrow, beginning with the Holly Springs Salamanders, the Grizzlies on Thursday, and the Petersburg Generals on Friday. On Saturday night, the Mustangs leave the friendly confines of Hooker Field to visit the Asheboro Copperheads at McCrary Park.
