Grizzlies Announce New Full Time Hire

The Gastonia Grizzlies are announcing the hiring of another full-time position, to start immediately. Justin Koenig is joining the Grizzlies staff as the new Groups Director after spending the 2017 Season as an intern and the 2018 Season as a Seasonal Staff member. Koenig graduated from Gardner-Webb University in May of 2018 and immediately returned to the Grizzlies for the summer, working as the Director of Operations during the summer campaign.
Koenig graduated with a major in Sports Management and a minor in Business Administration and wanted to immediately jump into the sports world. "Being an intern for 2017 was a great experience for me because it really let me get a look behind the curtain at how a sports team truly operates. There's a lot more that goes into the planning than I had originally thought." That experience was enough to want to come back for the 2018 summer in a more senior role. Koenig ran all Stadium Operations, from setting up the ballpark to all Food & Beverage.
Grizzlies General Manager David McDonald officially offered Koenig a full-time position following the end of the Grizzlies Season. "This was an easy hire from my standpoint. We've been able to see Justin for two summers now and know he's a hard worker who we can count on," said McDonald.
Koenig's role as Groups Director will certainly be different one than what he has been doing the past two summers. He'll be working with local groups, helping to organize their outings at the ballpark. He'll be focusing on a variety of fields, such as schools, little leagues, civic groups, and small businesses. With Group Outings being a large part of the Grizzlies attendance, Koenig is aiming to be a huge part of the Grizzlies continued success. Koenig states, "The Grizzlies play a huge role in this community, serving as an outlet to bring people together. And if I can help out with that, that's what gets me excited to come into work every day."
