Edenton Steamers News Release
WILSON, NC - The Edenton Steamers rolled past the Wilson Tobs by a final count of 6-2 on Tuesday night. Edenton (2-2) used another big-run inning to get ahead and stay ahead of Wilson (2-4), who dropped its third game in four contests.
Randy Dobnak collected the win in his first start for the Steamers. Dobnak (1-0) hurled five shutout innings while allowing five hits and striking out one.
Zack Kelly shouldered the loss for the Tobs. Kelly (0-1) surrendered six runs on eight hits while fanning five batters and walking one.
Ben Prada busted open the scoring with a leadoff homerun to right field in the top of the third. Daymon Totherow kept the rally going with a double, and after advancing to third on a wild pitch, he came home on a Tony Rosselli single. After Trey Hair flew out to left, the Clams strung together three consecutive hits, starting with a Thatcher Coleman double. Aaron Aucker and Richie Cunningham each added singles to plate Rosselli and Coleman respectively. Brandon Gragilla provided a sacrifice fly two batters later to score Aucker and give Edenton a 5-0 lead.
Coleman wrapped up the scoring for the Teal and Black with a solo shot to left-center in the fifth inning, running the score to 6-0 in favor of the Steamers.
Wilson refused to be shut out, tallying two runs in the eighth. The Tobs got things started with a leadoff dinger from Cameron Balego that skipped off the glove of the left fielder, Totherow, and over the wall. Colin Thacker poked a one-out single through the left side of the infield, coming home on a two-bagger from Andrew Webster. Wilson failed to push more runs across in the final two innings, leaving the final tally at 6-2.
These two teams face off in the second game of a home-and-home set on Wednesday night at Historic Hicks Field. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. For more information, fans can call (252) 482-4080 or visit edentonsteamers.com.
