Norfolk Tides News Release

Norfolk used three different three-run hits to knock off the Toledo Mud Hens 12-7 Thursday night at Harbor Park.

The Tides opened up the scoring in the first frame, as Joey Gathright and Corey Patterson singled prior to a three-run home run by Josh Bell, Bell's fifth homer of the year. Norfolk doubled its lead in the third inning, as Justin Turner lined a bases loaded, two-out double into left-center field to give the Tides a 6-0 lead.

Toledo cut the lead to 6-2 in the fourth frame, but Michael Aubrey launched a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the inning to extend Norfolk's lead to 7-2. The Mud Hens then pushed across three runs in the fifth inning - two of which were unearned - to pull within 7-5.

After Toledo tied the contest with two runs in the eighth off Norfolk relievers Pedro Viola and Kam Mickolio (1-0), the Tides batted around in the bottom of the inning against Hens reliever Jason Waddell (0-1). Patterson opened the frame with a single and advanced to second on a deep fly to right off the bat of Josh Bell. Scott Moore then followed with a sharp line drive just inside the left field line to bring home Patterson with the go-ahead run.

Aubrey added a sacrifice fly later in the frame, and Robert Andino gave the Tides three extra insurance runs with a bases loaded double to right-center field that extended Norfolk's lead to 12-7.

After scoring just seven runs over a five-game span that saw the Tides go 1-4, Norfolk has now plated 12 runs in back-to-back games.

The Tides and Mud Hens will continue their four-game series on Friday night, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15. Troy Patton (2-3, 6.12) will take the mound for Norfolk against right-hander Enrique Gonzalez (1-3, 4.50).
