Pearce Named Tribe's April Player Of The Month

INDIANAPOLIS -- First baseman Steve Pearce has been named the Indianapolis Indians' Player of the Month for April. He will be awarded a custom-made watch courtesy of Windsor Jewelers before Friday night's home contest against the Buffalo Bisons.

Pearce batted .367 (29-for-79) with 17 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs, seven RBI and three stolen bases during the season's first month. The first baseman also ranked among the International League leaders during the month of April in doubles (1st, 11), extra-base hits (1st, 15), on-base percentage (1st, .474), hits (T-1st, 29), total bases (T-2nd), runs (T-3rd, 17), walks (T-3rd, 16), slugging percentage (4th, .633) and batting average (6th, .367).

The righty reached base safely in 20 of 21 contests and recorded a hit in 16 of the 21 contests in the month of April, while also logging a seven-game hitting streak from April 8-14 during which time he hit 12-for-29 (.414) with four runs, one home run and four RBI.

Pearce has been a member of the Pirates' organization since 2005, when Pittsburgh drafted the 5-11 first baseman in the 8th round. The Florida native has spent parts of four seasons (2007-2010) in the majors.

In 2008, Pearce was honored with the 2008 Indianapolis Slugger of the Year Award, and, in 2007, the first baseman was named the Minor League Player of the Year by MiLB.com. Also in 2007, Pearce captured the J.G. Taylor Spink Award as the Topps "Minor League Player of the Year".
