Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs used a seven-run first inning to defeat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 8-6 on July 3 at Joannes Stadium.
Ryan Radue earned the win for the Bullfrogs. He allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk with four strikeouts to improve to 4-0 on the season.
For the sixth consecutive game, Green Bay scored in the first inning. This time, the Bullfrogs plated seven in the opening frame. Rafters' starter Chris Farwell walked the first three batters to load the bases, and the Bullfrogs scored their first run on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Donovan. Following three more walks, Farwell was replaced by John Jaeger.
In his first at bat since getting hit in the face by a pitch on June 25, Mikey Duarte was hit with a pitch to score a run on the first batter Jaeger faced to give Green Bay a 4-0 lead.
Ty Blankmeyer reached on an error to score another run, followed by a RBI single for leadoff batter Logan Taylor for the first hit of the game. The Bullfrogs scored their seventh run on a sacrifice fly by Robb Paller.
Radue retired the first batter with one pitch in the top of the second inning, followed by three consecutive singles to load the bases. Zack Domingues plated a run with a RBI groundout. Ernie Clement reached on an infield single to shortstop that scored a run, and his throw to first base got by Danny Rosenbaum to score Nate Easley, which cut the lead to 7-3.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the sixth when the Bullfrogs scored another run to extend their lead. Logan Taylor reached on an error to score Desi Ammons, who doubled to lead off the inning.
Ammons finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a RBI.
Wisconsin Rapids scored in the top of the eighth with a towering home run hit by Jake Sandlin to cut the deficit to four.
The Rafters added another run in the ninth with another solo shot to the nearly the same spot over the right-field wall for Domingues off of Bullfrogs' reliever Jack Mahan. Mahan left the game one batter later after giving up a single to Ernie Clement.
Mahan pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief and allowed three runs on three hits with a strikeout.
Jeremy Graf entered the game and allowed a single and a RBI groundout. He struck out pinch-hitter Alex Herceg to end the game.
The Bullfrogs will begin a five-game road trip tomorrow night against Wisconsin Rapids and return to Joannes Stadium on July 9 against the Kalamazoo Growlers for a variety of promotional items.
The first ladies through the gate will receive an ice cream scoop to use post game for the Diamonds & Gold Diamond Dig. WWE Hall of Famer Jerry "The King" Lawler will be making a special guest appearance to sign autographs for fans and throw out the first pitch.
