Huskies beat Alexandria
July 3, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release
The Duluth Huskies (1-2) got the bats going late as they came back and beat the Alexandria Blue Anchors 12-5.
The Huskies got off to a rocky start in front of 1,191 fans at Wade Stadium and found themselves in a hole after the first inning. Huskies starting pitcher Hunter Jones struggled early as he walked two, gave up two hits, and had three unearned runs against him in the first inning. Jones found his rhythm and ended the game without giving up an earned run and striking out two over five innings of work.
The Huskies scored a run in the first and third inning but did most of their offensive work in the later innings. Five hits, including a 2-RBI triple by Cal Stevenson, knocked in five runs in the bottom of the sixth. The bats stayed hot as the Huskies tacked on three more runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. Blue Anchors relief pitcher Zack Engelken would end the night with a loss and four runs against him.
The action continues tomorrow as the Huskies close out their series with the Blue Anchors with a July 4th matinee at 1:05.
