July 3, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.- The Bullfrogs offense got started early with seven runs through the first two innings and Sam Brunner (Dayton) went 7IP/4H/3R(1ER)/5K-0BB as the Bullfrogs (23-14/1-1) salvaged the two-game split with the La Crosse Loggers (20-16/1-1) by a score of 8-7.
In the first, the Bullfrogs were facing Matt Naylor (North Florida) who had not allowed an earned run since June 15th (past five appearances) and carried a 2.10 ERA in 25 2/3IP into the contest.
The Frogs gashed Naylor's line for four runs in the first after Logan Taylor (Louisville) doubled to leadoff the inning, Robb Paller's (Columbia) RBI single made it 1-0. An error at short stop scored another along with RBI by Brian Celsi(California) and Desi Ammons (Belmont).
La Crosse chipped in their own run as Mason McCoy (Iowa) scored his 39th run of the season (1st NWL).
With a 4-1 advantage, Caleb Ratzman (Illinois State), cracked a hit to right center field setting up a stolen base, his league leading 26th of the campaign. In scoring position, Paller came up big again with his second RBI hit in as many innings. Danny Rosenbaum (Louisville) proceeded to walk, and with two on, Ryan Donovan served a double to the warning track for two RBI. His 33 RBI pace the league. After two in the books, it was 7-1 Bullfrogs.
Slowly, the Loggers inched their way back in the game. La Crosse scored two in the fifth after an error started the rally. And tacked on three more in the eighth. In that inning, Brock Lundquist (Long Beach State) bashed a 2-RBI double and Will Savage sent in the third run of the eighth with a 5-3 groundout.
The Bullfrogs thankfully had scored a lone run in the eighth after an error on a ball that was dropped by Alex Merritt (North Florida) in right field, on a ball that just escaped the base of the infield.
Protecting an 8-6 lead in the ninth, Ryan Kirby (San Diego) lashed a double with two-outs off of Jeremy Graf and a run scored on an error on a high chopper toward second base. With the walk-off run at home plate, Jordan Zimmerman (Michigan State) grounded to second and the Bullfrogs pulled out the victory.
Green Bay has still not lost a series this season and capped off a 3-1 road stand including a series split at the Lumberyard in La Crosse. The Bullfrogs are now 2-2 against Bill Sandillo's Loggers this season.
The victory went to Brunner (3-2/2.36ERA/26 2/3IP) and the loss to Matt Naylor (2-1/4.33ERA/27IP). And the save was tallied for Jeremy Graf (Flagler) (2.21ERA/6 Saves).
