(Trenton, NJ) - Reading sent ten batters to the plate and scored five runs in the first inning and were never seriously threatened thereafter as the Phillies defeated the Trenton Thunder, 7-1, Saturday night in front of 7,942 fans, the second-largest crowd at Waterfront Park this season. Austin Hyatt (4-3) tossed 6.2 strong innings for the Phillies, who have allowed only five runs in the first three games of the series.

Trenton starter Mikey O'Brien (4-3) allowed five runs on five hits and two walks in the top of the first. Tug Hulett (two-run double), Sebastian Valle and Troy Hanzawa (RBI singles) had run-scoring hits in the frame for the Phillies. Darin Ruf clubbed his 16th home run of the season in the second to put Reading in front 6-0.

Hyatt made that lead hold into the seventh, working through seven hits and 111 pitches. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. Juan Morillo pitched 1.1 hitless innings and Frank Gailey worked the ninth to finish the Phillies victory.

O'Brien settled down after the rough start and did not allow hit over his final four innings. In six innings of work, the right-hander was charged with six runs on six hits and four walks, striking out six. Zoilo Almonte and Melky Mesa each had two of Trenton's seven hits.

The Thunder and Phillies conclude the four-game series with Sunday night at 1:05 pm as Reading tries to win three of four against Trenton. Trenton right-hander Dellin Betances (1-1, 2.92) is slated to start against righty Julio Rodriguez (5-4, 4.01).
