Berry Dazzles, But Baysox Lose

Bowie, Md. - Baysox starter Tim Berry pitched a season-high eight innings, allowing just two runs, but the Baysox struggled to score as they fell to Harrisburg 2-1 Friday night. Bowie outhit Harrisburg 11-6, but failed to push any runs across after the first inning.

The Baysox best chance to tie the game came in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out when Brandon Snyder was thrown out at home plate by left fielder Rick Hague on a Quincy Latimore single. That ended the Baysox final scoring threat.

Washington Nationals infielder Anthony Rendon was in Bowie for the evening, rehabbing with the Senators at second base. He came to the plate three times, grounding out, flying out and drawing a walk in five innings.

Bowie struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Harrisburg starter Joe Ross. Mike Yastrzemski hit a lead-off single to right field and moved to second base on a Glynn Davis sacrifice bunt. Garabez Rosa moved Yastrzemski to third base on a groundout and he scored on a Sean Halton double to left field to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

Harrisburg came right back to take the lead in the top half of the second inning against Berry. Matt Skole tied the game with a one out home run to left field and Wilmer Difo followed with a double to center field. Rick Hague brought Difo home with a two-out single to right field to give the Senators a 2-1 lead.

Berry threw eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking one in the loss. Reliever Andrew Triggs pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one.

Ross earned the win for Harrisburg, throwing six innings and allowing one run on eight hits while striking out five and walking one batter.

RHP Elih Villanueva (2-2, 3.32) takes the mound for the Baysox Saturday as the team plays the second game in a three game home series against the Harrisburg Senators. He will be opposed by RHP Brian Rauh (0-1, 21.60)

The Baysox are home through Thursday, May 7 for a seven game homestand against the Harrisburg Senators and Akron RubberDucks. Highlights of the homestand include fireworks on Saturday, May 2 after the 6:35 p.m. game and Mutt Monday, May 4 at 6:35 p.m.
