Rock Cats Shutout Richmond 1-0 Friday Night at NB Stadium

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 1-0 on Friday night at New Britain Stadium, improving to an Eastern League best 14-7 on the season. New Britain, who is in first place in the Eastern League's Eastern Division, handed Richmond its franchise record 13th consecutive loss.

1B Will Swanner smashed a solo home run off Giants' prospect Kyle Crick in the 5th inning for the only run of the game. New Britain starter Ryan Carpenter combined with relievers Nelson Gonzalez and Austin House on the shutout win. Carpenter is 2-0 at home and has not allowed a run in 14 innings at New Britain Stadium. House earned his seventh save of the year, a league best.

The Flying Squirrels had some opportunities to score and left 10 men on base, while going 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position. Richmond is now 0-5 on the road this season.

The Rock Cats, who had a 6-game win streak snapped on Wednesday, have won 12 of their last 14 games and have gone 12-2 since beginning the season 2-5. New Britain is 4-0 against Richmond this season.

The Rock Cats and Flying Squirrels play the middle of a 3-game weekend series Saturday night at New Britain Stadium (6:35 PM) as the Cats' try for their 5th straight series win. Shane Carle will try to become the first pitcher in Rock Cats history to win his first five starts. He will be opposed by Matt Lujan.
