B-Mets Catch Fisher Cats, 2-1

BINGHAMTON, NY - The B-Mets scored two runs in the sixth inning to rally past the Fisher Cats 2-1 Friday night at NYSEG stadium for their fifth straight win. Three B-Met pitchers combined to stifle New Hampshire, holding them to four hits.

Gabriel Ynoa got the start for Binghamton and allowed a run on four hits over six innings, while striking out a season-high eight batters. His previous high was three. Chase Huchingson and Paul Sewald combined to toss three no-hit innings of relief, walking one batter and striking out three. The Binghamton bullpen has not allowed an earned run in their last 14 innings pitched.

The B-Mets were stifled by Matt Boyd, who pitched 5.1 shutout innings, surrendering just four hits. The bats came alive against the Fisher Cat bullpen, as Cory Burns was greeted with a single from Josh Rodriguez to begin his outing. He was driven in two batters later when Dustin Lawley laced a double up the left field line with two outs in the sixth. The B-Mets took the lead for good when Gavin Cecchini singled to centerfield to put Binghamton on top 2-1 later in the frame. It was both batters 11th RBI of the season.

The lone blemish from Ynoa came with two outs in the first inning, when Ryan Schmipf tagged him with a home run to right field, his fifth of the season. The first five outs all come on strikeouts for Ynoa. Huchingson recorded his fifth hold in nine outings, while Sewald registered his third save in four tries. New Hampshire was held hitless in six at-bats with men in scoring position.

Ynoa (2-1) earned the win, after allowing six runs and 10 hits in 4.2 innings in his last time out against the Fisher Cats. Cory Burns (2-2) took the loss in relief, allowing two runs and four hits in 1.2 innings pitched. It was his third blown save of the year.

The B-Mets (13-8) continue their series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Saturday afternoon, with a 1:05 first pitch at NYSEG Stadium. Binghamton RHP Luis Cessa (1-1, 2.25) gets the ball against RHP Taylor Cole (0-2, 6.52).
