Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow continued his early-season dominance as the Altoona Curve held the Erie Seawolves to one hit in a 2-0 shutout on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The first-place Curve (13-6) handed the Seawolves (6-14) their tenth consecutive loss.
Glasnow (Win, 2-0) sat down the first 14 batters he faced before surrendering a two-out, two-strike single to Erie first baseman James Robbins in the fifth inning, which would be the lone hit of the night for the Seawolves. He finished the evening working 6.0 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts while lowering his ERA to 0.79.
The Curve offense struck in the first inning as center fielder Keon Broxton opened the frame with a double and first baseman Josh Bell singled him in two batters later.
Erie starting pitcher Austin Kubitza (Loss, 1-1) settled in after the first inning but found more trouble in the sixth, when Bell plated Broxton with a fielder's choice groundout to stretch the lead to 2-0.
Bell finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBIs, raising his average to .373 on the season. Broxton and Sebastian Valle each had a pair of hits.
Curve relievers Jeremy Bleich (Hold, 2) and Jhondaniel Medina (Hold, 2) each tossed a scoreless frame before Jhonathan Barrios (Save, 4) closed out the game in the ninth.
Curve starting pitching has now combined to post a 1.03 ERA through the first 19 games of the season, allowing just 12 earned runs over 105.1 innings.
Kubitza picked up his first complete game in a losing effort, allowing two earned runs on ten hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
The Curve and Seawolves continue the three-game series on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Right-hander Angel Sanchez (2-0, 0.40) takes the mound for Altoona, while righty Warwick Saupold (0-1, 10.29) will pitch for Erie.
Saturday night's game will be followed by a postgame fireworks show and Kids Run the Bases.
