Bernstein's Gem Leads Pippins to 2-0 Win

Yakima Valley Pippins News Release
YAKIMA, Wash. - Andrew Bernstein says he lives by a "what happened" mentality instead of "what if?" ideology. Take away the hypotheticals and what happened Wednesday was another dominant start from the righty, working eight scoreless innings to lead the Pippins to a 2-0 win over the Medford Rogues.
Bernstein picked up his second win of the season Wednesday, helping the Pippins (23-22) avoid a sweep by Medford (21-24). The righty allowed just seven hits and two walks, while striking out three. His biggest jam came in the 4th, when Medford loaded the bases with no outs. Bernstein got out of it with a strikeout and a double play to keep the Rogues off the board.
His offense gave him early support to further energize his gem of a performance. Ryan Lillie brought in the game's first run with an RBI single in the 1st and Mitch Skaggs brought in the night's final run with an RBI groundout in the 3rd.
Wyatt Mills came on in the 9th and moved past a pair of infield singles to pick up his ninth save of the season. The Pippins salvaged their third straight series finale and still have not been swept this season.
With a loss by Corvallis, Yakima Valley moves within 1 1/2 games of the Knights in the wild card race. The Pippins will play a non-league game Thursday at 7:05 pm against the West Coast Guns before returning to league play for the home stretch of the regular season, which begins Friday at Cowlitz.
