
Elks Drop 2 to Bellingham

The Bend Elks dropped both games of Wednesdays doubleheader to the Bellingham Bells. Both games were 7 innings. The Bells took game 1 by a score of 4-3. Bellingham took an early lead with 2 runs in the first off of starter Riley Newman.The Elks fought back in the 2nd and put 3 runs across the plate highlighted by a 2 run homer from Louis Wolf and a RBI single from Billy King. Bend held the lead until the 5th when the first batter for the Bells was hit by a pitch. The next man to come to the plate for the Bells shot a double to right along with a throwing that error tied the game at 3 each. The Bells took the lead for good after reliever Mac Gaul hit a batter then threw 2 wild pitches allowing the final Bells runners to score and take game one 4-3.Reliever Jake Forrester took the loss and is now 2-3 for the season. Andrew Kemmerer got the win for Bellingham, his 3rd of the season.
Game 2 got out of hand early on the mound for the Elks, and the Elks were never able to get things going at the plate against Bells starter Andrew Summerville. Summerville faced 18 Elk batters and allowed only 3 hits in the 4 1/3 innings he pitched. He struck out 4 and walked 3. Summerville is now 2-2 for the season. Bend starter Nate Hunter took the loss giving up 9 earned runs off of 9 hits including a home run. Hunter is now 4-2 for the Elks.
Bellingham scored a single run in the first the top of the 1st and two 4 run innings in both the 2nd and 3rd that put he Bells up 9-0 before the Elks scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the 3rd. The Elks were only able to muster single runs in the 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th innings of game 2.
Bend dropped 2 of 3 games against the West division leading Bellingham Bells however continue to lead the South division by 7 games over the Corvallis Knights, who lost to Klamath Falls tonight.The Elks magic number for clinching the South is at 3 games with 9 games remaining in the 2015 regular season. The Elks take a well deserved day off Thursday before hitting the road for the final road trip of the regular season. Bend travels to Medford on Friday for a 3 game series against the Rogues from Harry and David Field. All 3 games are set to start at 6:35 PM. Tris Reisfar will call the action, along with the Pregame show with Elks Head Coach Trey Watt starting at 6:15.
