Syracuse, NY-- The Syracuse Chiefs, Triple-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce that outfielder Roger Bernadina is the International League Batter of the Week for April 19-25 as announced by the league office.

Bernadina, who carries a nine-game hit streak into play Monday, went 13-for-28 over the past week, a .464 clip. Bernadina posted two or more hits on five separate occasions during the week. He also walked five times compared to just two strikeouts during the week. Bernadina leads the team in multi-hit games with nine in 13 appearances.

"To me, it's a much deserved award," Chiefs manager Trent Jewett said. "I've been able to witness his base running, his defense and his talent and it's certainly a bright light we're seeing."

Bernadina was with the Nationals for five days earlier this season and had one at-bat. He played in only eight games last year before fracturing his right ankle against the Marlins on April 18.

The Chiefs conclude their six-game homestand with a noon matinee against the Rochester Red Wings this afternoon. Tickets are available in person, by calling 315-474-7833 or by visiting the team's website at www.syracusechiefs.com.
