
Bergon, Cox garner honor

DURHAM, NC - Ottawa Rapidz INF Jabe Bergeron and Atlantic City Surf LHP Adam Cox have been named by PA-Sportsticker, the official statistician of the Can-Am League, as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.
In six games for the Rapidz, Bergeron collected 10 hits in 24 at-bats for a .417 average. He hit two home runs and four doubles for a slugging percentage of .833. He drove in five runs and finished the week with an on-base percentage of .462. The 26-year-old is among the league leaders in batting average (fourth) and runs scored (tied for fourth) and is hitting .361 on the season with six homers, 15 doubles, 34 RBI, and 41 runs scored.
The native of Keene, NH spent the previous two seasons with Nashua, Worcester and Sussex of the Can-Am League. In 2007 he appeared in 88 games for Sussex, hitting .304 with five home runs, 17 doubles, 49 RBI, and 51 runs scored.
Cox has been outstanding for the Surf all season and has compiled a record of 7-2 in 13 starts. Over his past two outings he allowed just one earned run in 15 innings pitched, leading his team to a 2-0 victory over New Jersey and an 11-3 win at Quebec. In those two starts he racked up 16 strikeouts, surrendered just seven hits, and had an earned run average of 0.60. He currently leads the league in strikeouts with 92, is tied for third in wins, and has the fourth best ERA with a mark of 2.24.
Cox was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fourth round of the 2000 draft. In his six-plus seasons as a professional, the 6'4" lefty has compiled an overall winning percentage of .674 and averages one strikeout for every inning pitched (351 K / 351.2 IP).
