Benson Scores OT Winner in Semi Final

December 1, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Winnipeg Ice News Release

Winnipeg ICE forward Zach Benson scored 11 seconds into three-on-three overtime to lift Team Canada Black to a 4-3 win over the National Women's Team, securing a spot in the final at the Capital City Challenge. The National Women's Team scored three goals in less than four minutes in the second period to erase a three-goal deficit, but it could not complete the comeback.

"It was three-on-three hockey and there was a lot of open ice. It was a big faceoff win by [Calum] Ritchie, and then Tanner [Molendyk] made a great pass to Ritchie. Obviously, he made a great saucer pass to me, and I was able to find the back of the net on a great play all around" said Benson.

Team Canada Black plays Team Canada Red in the Gold Medal game Wednesday night at 6:00 Central time.
