April 22, 2025 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
Ben Kevan is a 2007-born forward currently playing in his second season with the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL. Prior to joining the Bucs, Kevan developed his game in California with the Los Angeles Jr. Kings, where he quickly emerged as a top-tier prospect.
Eligible for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, Kevan is projected as a second-round pick and was ranked 44th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting's Midterm Rankings. He is committed to playing Division I hockey at Arizona State University following his USHL career.
Since arriving in Des Moines, Kevan has competed in several elite tournaments, including the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2025 World Junior A Challenge, where he helped Team USA capture the gold medal.
Kevan's USHL journey began during his 15U season, when he attended the 2022 Fall Classic in Pittsburgh, PA. Watching top-tier teams compete solidified his decision to pursue the USHL path. The Buccaneers drafted him 5th overall in the 1st round of the 2023 USHL Phase I Draft.
He made an immediate impact as a rookie, leading all USHL rookies in scoring with 57 points (24 goals, 33 assists) over 59 games-averaging 0.97 points per game. His standout performance earned him a spot on the 2024 USHL All-Rookie Team.
This season, Kevan has stepped into a leadership role within the organization. He has served as a mentor to teammate Blake Zielinski, who joined the Bucs full-time in December after starting as an affiliate. As billet brothers, Kevan has helped guide Zielinski's development both on and off the ice.
In recognition of his talent and leadership, Kevan was selected to join the USA U18 National Team-an honor not all USHL players receive. His relentless work ethic, team-first mentality, and leadership capabilities have earned him respect across the league and beyond.
With a dynamic offensive skill set, elite hockey IQ, and proven ability to lead, Ben Kevan continues to elevate his game as he prepares for the next stage of his hockey career.
