Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, July 15, 2011 - Bell today launched its "Score the First Goal" contest in anticipation of Vancouver Whitecaps FC's move into the club's new home, Bell Pitch downtown, this fall. The contest winner will score the first goal into the opponent's net on Bell Pitch in a pre-game ceremony at the first match, scheduled for October 2.
This announcement underscores Bell's significant commitment to Whitecaps FC as the club's Premier Founding Partner, and builds on the equity created with the establishment of Whitecaps FC's home field, Bell Pitch, as the club returns to the city's downtown core.
"Bell's commitment to our club has been unparalleled, and we're looking forward to our move to Bell Pitch downtown in early October," said Whitecaps FC chief executive officer, Paul Barber. "When we started the process to seek a jersey partner we saw Bell as the best possible brand to align with, and with innovative and creative thinking about how they can enrich our match and fan experience, they have made it better every day."
"Being a fan of the Whitecaps just got better with Bell," said Loring Phinney, Vice President, Corporate Marketing for Bell. "We committed to an enhanced experience for soccer fans when we announced our partnership, and as the team gets ready to play their first match at Bell Pitch downtown we're delighted to assist them in welcoming fans to their future home and offering the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime soccer experience."
To enter the contest, please visit bell.ca/scorethefirstgoal or stop by the Bell Box on the concourse at Empire Field during Whitecaps matches. The "Score the First Goal" contest will run from July 16 to September 24, 2011.
The lucky winner will get to make history by kicking the first-ever goal into the net at Bell Pitch before the Whitecaps starting match in the new stadium. Fifty additional winners will be awarded pairs of tickets for the match.
"We have shown Whitecaps FC fans that, together with our range of world-class partners, we can provide unique experiences for our inaugural season in Major League Soccer and today, thanks to Bell, we're delivering on that," said Mr. Barber. "Bell is helping us create a great fan atmosphere for our first match in our new home downtown."
