Toronto FC Acquire Ryan Johnson from San Jose

Toronto FC announced Thursday that they have acquired forward Ryan Johnson from the San Jose Earthquakes along with allocation money and an international roster spot in exchange for forward Alan Gordon, midfielder Jacob Peterson, and defender Nana Attakora.

"We are rebuilding the club and this deal was necessary to continue that process" said Toronto FC Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter. "I'd like to thank Alan, Jacob, and Nana for their contributions to Toronto FC. We are very pleased to add an experienced forward in Ryan Johnson. We expect him to make an immediate impact at our club."

Johnson, 26, is a Jamaican international forward that has played for the San Jose Earthquakes since 2008. In 99 games for the Earthquakes, Johnson scored 17 goals and added 13 assists. He was named the team's MVP and leading goal scorer for the 2009 season. Johnson went to Oregon State University and was drafted 26th overall in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake. Johnson was traded to Chicago Fire later that season and eventually left the MLS for Osters IF of Sweden. Johnson returned to the MLS in 2008 with San Jose. He has earned 13 international caps for Jamaica and has scored five goals.

The international spot will return to San Jose on January 1, 2013.
