Burlington Bees News Release

A frustration-wrought first inning set the tone for a 7-3 loss to Beloit on Monday night.

Snappers southpaw Martire Garcia opened the game by issuing four straight walks, but wriggled out of the frame unscathed thanks in large part to a pickoff of Whit Merrifield and a pair of strikeouts. Garcia (W, 2-1) walked seven in his five innings on the hill, but allowed only two runs on four hits.

It was the first of multiple opportunities squandered by the Bees, who went 1-for-19 with runners in scoring position en route to a season high-tying 15 men left on base.

The Bees led 1-0 after Julio Aparicio rocketed a double to right-center that drove home Deivy Batista after a leadoff walk. Beloit responded immediately, however, with a pair of runs that would put them up for good. Yorby Martinez and Reggie Williams knocked out back-to-back RBI base hits off of Tyler Sample (L, 5-10), who battled his way through another erratic appearance. The righty allowed five runs (four earned) on six walks and five hits in four innings to become the third Bee to reach double figures in losses.

The Snappers scored three more in the third and two in the fifth to seize command. The Bees were able to add single runs in the fourth and sixth, but could pull no closer.

Aparicio led the offense with two doubles. Jake Kuebler and Batista each drew three walks, and the Bees drew 12 as a team, a new season high.

The Bees and Snappers square off one more time on Tuesday night before heading to Cedar Rapids to finish the week. Tune in on News Radio 1490 KBUR and GoBees.com for the pregame show at 6:40 followed by first pitch at 7:00.
