Bees Sting Isotopes with 3-2 Win

August 30, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes playoff hopes took a significant hit on Tuesday night as they fell to the Bees 3-2 from Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City. The Albuquerque loss, coupled with El Paso's win moves the Isotopes to 5.5 games out of first place, while the Chihuahuas magic number now sits at two.

It was scoreless through the first four innings in Salt Lake until Isotopes shortstop Rafael Ynoa delivered a two-run double to left-center field in the top of the fifth inning, putting Albuquerque up 2-0. Unfortunately for the Isotopes, these would be the only two runs the club would score on the night.

With the exception of Ynoa's double, the Salt Lake pitching staff shut down the Albuquerque offense after scheduled starter Tim Lincecum was scratched due to illness. Four Bees pitchers held the Isotopes to just five hits in the contest.

Albuquerque starter Harrison Musgrave was dominant through the game's first five innings. The only blemish on the night came when he allowed a three-run home run to Bees left fielder Todd Cunningham in the bottom of the sixth. Isotopes relievers Justin Miller and Gonzalez Germen would each come on to pitch a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.

One positive to come out of the ball game saw Isotopes outfielder Mike Tauchman extend his hitting streak to 18 games, a new career-high and a season-high for Albuquerque.

The Bees and Isotopes continue their series tomorrow evening from Salt Lake when he clubs will meet for a doubleheader. Right-hander Christian Bergman (3-3, 3.66) will take the hill for the Isotopes in game one, while fellow righty Eddie Butler (7-2, 4.64) toes the rubber in game two. First pitch in game one of the twin bill is set for 5:05 p.m. from Smith's Ballpark.
