Chihuahuas Win Tuesday and Lower Magic Number to Two

August 30, 2016 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

The El Paso Chihuahuas held off a late Las Vegas rally Tuesday and beat the 51s 6-5 at Southwest University Park. Within a minute of the Chihuahuas' game concluding, second place Albuquerque lost 3-2 in Salt Lake and the combination of those two results lowered El Paso's magic number to two. There are six games remaining in the regular season.

Las Vegas scored a first inning run for the second time in as many nights and went ahead 2-0 in the third on Brandon Nimmo's second homer of the series. The Chihuahuas pushed ahead with a three-run third, scoring on RBI hits from Hunter Renfroe, Patrick Kivlehan and Jose Rondon. El Paso never trailed again after that burst of hits.

Austin Hedges went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in the win. Carlos Asuaje went 3-for-5 with an eighth inning RBI double and now has 51 multi-hit games this season. Daniel Moskos picked up his 13th hold of the season on Tuesday, which is tied for the most in the Pacific Coast League. Phil Maton got his first Triple-A save and now has thrown four scoreless outings since joining the Chihuahuas.
