Bees hold off \'Birds

Memphis, Tenn. - Salt Lake held off a late Memphis rally to beat the Redbirds 9-7 Tuesday night at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds rallied from a 7-1 deficit to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. However, the Bees scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth and closer Jose Arredondo quickly ended any hopes of another Memphis rally in the bottom of the ninth with a 1-2-3 inning. Dee Brown scored the go-ahead run in the ninth on a Mark Worrell wild pitch and Ryan Budde drove in an insurance run with a single to center. Terry Evans went 4-for-4 and Kendry Morales belted a three-run homer to lead Salt Lake. Five different Bees had multi-hit games in the team's 16-hit attack.

D'Angelo Jimenez paced the Redbirds offense with his first home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Jimenez finished the night with two hits and three RBI. Joe Mather tied the game in the eighth with a double to right field.

Jason Bulger picked up the win in relief after allowing one run on three hits in two innings of work. Salt Lake starter Kasey Olenberger gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings. Memphis starter Mike Parisi was roughed up for seven runs on 10 hits and four walks across four innings. Mark Worrell was pegged with the loss after giving up two runs in the ninth.

The ‘Birds and Bees will play tomorrow morning with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m. AutoZone Park will host its first-ever School Day with 55 schools participating. Left-hander Mark Mulder is scheduled to make a rehab start for the Redbirds and oppose Salt Lake's Giancarlo Alvarado.
