PORTLAND, Ore. - Chip Ambres hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Portland Beavers won their third straight game by beating the Oklahoma RedHawks 5-4 Tuesday night at PGE Park.

Jody Gerut was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Edgar Gonzalez added two hits, including a two-run single that brought the Beavers to within 4-3 in the bottom of the third. Gerut is 13-for-22 over his last seven games to raise his average to .311.

Still trailing by a run in the seventh, Gerut laced a sharp single to right with one out and Ambres clubbed an 0-1 pitch from Kameron Loe onto the boardwalk in left for his fourth home run of the year.

The win went to reliever Mike Adams (1-1), who was reinstated from the Beavers disabled list earlier in the day. Dirk Hayhurst struck out three and pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game and notch his first save for Portland (10-13).

Loe (1-1) took the loss with two innings of relief.

For the RedHawks (17-9), Kevin Mench had three hits - including a triple and a double - and Nelson Cruz was 3-for-4 and hit his second home run of the series - a two-run shot in the third that upped Oklahoma's lead to 4-1.

The win increased Portland's record to 14-4 against the RedHawks at PGE Park in eight seasons of play.

Mench's leadoff triple sparked a two-run, second-inning rally for the RedHawks. Mench scored on a single from Ryan Roberts, while John Mayberry, making his Triple-A debut after being transferred to the RedHawks from Class AA Frisco earlier in the day, doubled to give Oklahoma a 2-0 lead.

The Beavers countered with a run in the bottom of the second. Brian Myrow singled, Gonzalez walked, and, two batters later, Nick Hundley's sac fly to center cut the deficit to 2-1.

The series continues Wednesday morning at 11:05 a.m. It is the first Art & Science of Baseball day of the season, inviting area children to experience the ultimate field trip.
