Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA (August 27, 2010) - A big crowd of 1,094 turned out for the season's final postgame fireworks show on Friday, but Chris Dennis of the Timber Rattlers put on a show of his own in Wisconsin's 7-3 series-clinching win over the Bees at Community Field.
Dennis finished 2-for-3 with four RBI, including a backbreaking three-run bomb off of Bees starter Matt Mitchell as part of a four-run fourth. The native Canadian also tripled home a run in the sixth and came home one batter later on a Cameron Garfield single.
Mitchell (L, 1-8) was thrust back into the rotation after Elisaul Pimentel left the team to tend to personal matters in his native Dominican Republic. Mitchell was touched for seven runs on six hits and two walks in six innings. His counterpart, though far from perfect, was good enough to pick up the win. Efrain Nieves allowed two runs on five hits and two walks with four punchouts in five and a third innings en route to his fourth win of the year.
The Bees had one opportunity late with the tying run at the plate. After loading the bases and plating a run on four singles off of Wisconsin reliever Santo Manzanillo, southpaw Jon Pokorny was summoned from the pen with two outs in the eighth inning. Pokorny, who was named this week as the Midwest League postseason all-star team's left-handed reliever, struck out Gerard Hall on controversial outside strike to maintain his team's four-run advantage. Both Hall and manager Jim Gabella were ejected shortly afterward for arguing the ruling.
Julio Aparicio led the offense with a 3-for-4 night, though he did not figure in any of the scoring.
The Bees hit the road for their final trip of the season, a seven-game swing that will take them to Beloit and Cedar Rapids. The Snappers welcome the Bees to Beloit's Pohlman Field for the opener of a four-game set on Saturday night at 7:00. Join Nick Devlin on News Radio 1490 KBUR and GoBees.com for the pregame show at 6:40.
