August 12, 2019 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release
The Salt Lake Bees dropped their second straight game in Des Moines, as they fell to the Iowa Cubs 5-2 on Sunday afternoon.
Salt Lake starter Jason Alexander tossed three scoreless innings, but in the fourth, he allowed singles to the first three batters to fall behind 1-0. The I-Cubs would add one more run in the inning on a ground out. In the fifth, Iowa loaded the bases with two outs before a passed ball charged to Roberto Pena and a wild pitch by Zac Ryan would make it a 4-0 game. Salt Lake would get on the board in the seventh inning, as Jared Walsh walked with one out and Jose Rojas and Nick Franklin would load the bases. Pena blooped a single to center to score Walsh and Rojas came home on a sacrifice fly to pull the Bees to within two, but Addison Russell closed out the scoring for Iowa with a solo homer off of Kaleb Cowart.
Alexander (1-4) took the loss, as he went four and one-third innings and allowed three runs on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks. The Bees managed just five hits in the game, two by Franklin and two by Pena. Jeremy Rhoades worked a three up, three down eighth inning with two strikeouts. Jared Walsh went 0 for 3 to snap his eleven game hitting streak, while Erick Salcedo had a seven game hitting streak come to an end. Iowa has taken the first two games of the series and Salt Lake is now 2-3 on their Midwestern road trip.
